Condi was still sleeping when I left home to go and get something fresh for breakfast. I had a bad night: recurrent nightmares, uncomfortable sofa and everything associated with them. And just as I was about to get some sleep earlier in the morning, the combined incessant rings of Condi’s cell phone and Blackberry awakened me mercilessly.
When I returned home just half an hour later, Condi had left a note saying that she had early meetings to attend and that she would get back to me whenever she had an opportunity. The note ended with a ‘kiss’ and a post scriptum thanking me for everything and in particular for the Chopin CD with a smiley sign.
I had not yet dropped the shopping bag on the kitchen counter when my phone rang:
“Sorry to wake you up so early in the morning” but I have got a bit of bad news,” Ava said without prelude.
“What is it? What happened?”
“Joachim Azuelos was transported to the hospital a couple of hours ago,” she said.
“Oh, shit! Did they try to kill him?” I asked supposing that the ‘1492’ plotters had learned of his ‘betrayal’ and had consequently attempted to assassinate him.
